Candle Care
Candle Care Tips from Heart of Her Creations
Every cotton wick candle we create is crafted with love and care, and we want you to enjoy it to its fullest. Follow these tips to make the most of your candle and keep the flame burning beautifully.
1. First Burn Matters
Coconut wax candles are unique! During the first burn, it’s okay if the wax doesn’t completely melt to the edges of the jar.
- Burn your candle for at least 2 hours minimum to establish a steady melt pool and maximize scent throw.
2. Trim Your Wick
To keep your candle glowing:
- Trim the wood wick to about 1/8 inch before every burn.
- If the flame struggles or goes out, gently remove the charred wood with your fingers (when cool) or a wick trimmer.
3. Safe Burning Practices
- Always burn candles within sight and avoid drafts, children, and pets.
- Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface and keep it clear of flammable materials.
4. Burn Time Guidelines
- For optimal performance, burn your candle no longer than 4 hours at a time.
- Allow the wax to cool and solidify before relighting.
5. Extinguishing the Flame
- To safely extinguish, use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame.
- Never use water, as it can cause the hot wax to splatter.
6. Prevent Uneven Wax Pooling
Drafts or breezes can cause uneven wax pooling, reducing your candle’s burn time. Keep your candle in a draft-free area for the best experience.
7. Keep It Clean
- Remove debris like matches, wick trimmings, or dust from the wax pool to ensure a clean, even burn every time.
8. End of the Journey
- When only 1/2 inch of wax remains, it’s time to retire your candle. This prevents the jar from overheating or breaking.
